Backups are running dead slow

Hello All,

Currently we are using LTO5 tape drives and tapes, the backup are running at 3Kbps/sec, please suggest me to resolve this issue ASAP.

What version of NetBackup? What are you backing up? Has it always been slow?

difficult to say. What happens if you send the backups to a different storage unit? Still slow?

Cab you post up the bptm log from the media server and the bpbkar log from the client (all at high VERBOSE levels)?

You need to find out where exactly the bottleneck is.

First step is to determine if one or more clients are having the same problem.
Determine clients' ability to generate data stream (use bpbkar test as per Perf Tuning Guide).

Test network transfer between client(s) and media server at OS level. 

What type of NIC in media server? 1 Gb NIC means that media server will only be able to receive data at a rate that can stream a single tape drive.
How many tape drives simultaneously in use on the media server?

Check media server's ability to stream tape drives - details in Perf Tuning doc referred to above.

Check speed duplex setting on the switch and NIC if using 100MB network. Gigabit network does not have this weakness per design,

To answer additional questions in your other post:

Seems there is a permission problem. 
Check logon account for NBU client service. If LocalSystem, change to a domain account with permissions to all files and folders. Select a user account with password that does not expire.

Use the bpbkar test on the C-drive as suggested above.
