Best to speak to Oracle DBA...
Quite a number of Oracle RMAN perfomance tuning docs on the web:
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B19306_01/backup.102/b14191/rcmtunin.htm

Thank you kindly Marianne,
Slow backup are from Teradata. Can tuning my buffer sizes help?

I have no experience whatsoever with Teradata.
No idea what settings/tuning parameters are available for Teradata...
The fact that bphdb is reporting the small sizes tells me that it is controlled by the source - Teradata.
Try to search the web for Teradata buffer tuning?
e.g. http://developer.teradata.com/doc/connectivity/tdnetdp/13.11/webhelp/ResponseBufferSize.html
Don't know if tuning NBU buffers will help. No harm in trying.
Ensure that bptm log folder exists on media server to monitor effects before and after changes.
