Hi Team,

I need a urgent support ...

We have replace a faulti tape drive LTO 4 in over SL 500 tape library. I have removed the old one & new one is drives status shows PCD in device management after replacing with new in Netbackup 6.0 MP4.

Below is the output:

C:\Program Files\VERITAS\Volmgr\bin>tpconfig -d
Id  DriveName           Type   Residence
      SCSI coordinates/Path                                            Status
****************************************************************************
0   HP.ULTRIUM4-SCSI.000 hcart  TLD(0)  DRIVE=1
      {5,0,0,0}                                                        UP
1   HP.ULTRIUM4-SCSI.001 hcart  TLD(0)  DRIVE=2
      {5,0,1,0}                                                        UP
2   HP.ULTRIUM4-SCSI.002 hcart  TLD(0)  DRIVE=3
      {5,0,2,0}                                                        UP
3   HP.ULTRIUM4-SCSI.003 hcart  TLD(0)  DRIVE=4
      {5,0,3,0}                                                        UP
4   HP.ULTRIUM4-SCSI.008 pcd    TLD(0)  DRIVE=5
      {5,0,4,0}                                                        DISABLED
5   HP.ULTRIUM4-SCSI.007 hcart  TLD(0)  DRIVE=6
      {5,0,5,0}                                                        UP
6   HP.ULTRIUM4-SCSI.005 hcart  TLD(0)  DRIVE=7
      {5,0,6,0}                                                        UP
7   HP.ULTRIUM4-SCSI.006 hcart  TLD(0)  DRIVE=8
      {5,0,7,0}                                                        UP
================================================

I tried to configure it but same path was used with HP.ULTRIUM4-SCSI.004 by one decommision media server hence I removed the path entry of that server. & new drive added  HP.ULTRIUM4-SCSI.008 showed as PCD as above. while manualy configuring I am getting error "unable to add drive to configuration, Drive path is already in use" & I am unable to reconfigure it.

I removed all configured drives from media & device management, restarted the library & server now all drives shows in PCD mode.

LTID service is not running properly on master & media server, while restarting it it agin stoped.

Please suggest me how I can handle this & reconfigure the all tape drive.

earliest respose help me a lot.

PCD = Partially-configured drives

I have in all honesty never seen this in my 13 years of working with NBU  and supporting many customers...

Please show output of the following on master as well media server(s):

C:\Program Files\VERITAS\Volmgr\bin\tpconfig -l
C:\Program Files\VERITAS\Volmgr\bin\vmoprcmd -d
as well as C:\Program Files\VERITAS\Volmgr\bin\scan

You have mentioned 'decommision media server' - how exactly was media server decommissioned?

PS: Are you aware of the fact that NBU 6.x is no longer supported?

I would just remove the all the drives and readd them with the wizard. Martin

Super - it is often easily to just reconfig then spending ages working out what is worng, and then reconfiguring anyway to fix it ...
