Buggy exclude issue

felonious_caper

I have a policy with 10 Windows clients which have the following backup selection:

C:\Users\*

C:\Documents and Settings\*

Each client has the following exclude list:

C:\Users\*

C:\Documents and Settings\*

Each client has the following exclusions to the exclude list:

C:\Users\*\Documents

C:\Users\*\Favorites

C:\Documents and Settings\*\My Documents

C:\Documents and Settings\*\Favorites

I know this looks a little rediculous but its the only way to get wildcards to work on a windows client and 9/10 clients function properly when being backed up. However, I have one client that completely ignores this inclusion/exclusion list and seems to back up all files and folders.

I've tried to remove the client from the policy, re-add it, removed and readded all of the inclusion/exclusions, but always with the same result. I don't know why it's backing up all of these files.

Any hints or suggestions? This is on NBU 7.0.0

Just check the registry:

HKLM\Software\Veritas\NetBackup\CurrentVersion\Config\

The exclude key holds the list so it will indeed be "remembered"

A exclude list can be made specific for  a schedule or policy only. Chech the exclude setting in the Netbackup BAR gui on the client.

There are a couple fixes that can be applied on top of 7.0.1,

(ET2115722 )   Exclude and include lists are being recognized by user and catalog backups. This may lead to unintended exclusions during backup.
 http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH137767

(ET2125979)  Windows client exclude list not honored on shared drive of Microsoft Cluster following upgrade to 6.5.6/7.0.1.

Downloadable Fix:  http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH150081

I would recommend 7.1 as an upgrade as well as there's a couple more exclude issues fixed in that release:

So i removed the problem client, renamed its alias in the host file, and then added the new client and magically it works now.

But when i rename it to the old alias, and re add that client, it completely ignores the exclude list. For some reason it just doesn't like that alias name.

Out of curiousity what is the alias name?

mis3446, the new alias is misnick. But even when changing it back, it's almost as if netbackup "remembers" all of the exclusions I set for the old alias. Is there a command line prompt I can use to permanantly erase that alias?
