DHCP.mdb not geting backed up on name server

We have a couple of windows 2000 name servers and we are not getting good backups of the DHCP.mdb. It is always listed as being locked on another process. VSP is enabled on these servers and it does not seem to be making a difference. Help!!!

Josh,

From what I gather, the file is a database for DHCP clients, and is only written to when activated.

Check out this link

http://www.computerperformance.co.uk/w2k3/services/DHCP_Database_Backup.htm

I know it for 2003 servers but it stillshould be helpfull.

Do you have the extension called OFO (open File Option)? IT backs up open files on the Billy servers!

the dhcp database backs itself up to

windows\system32\dhcp\backup
you cant backup the live db since the dhcp service is actually using it

Graeme,
You say:
you cant backup the live db since the dhcp service is actually using it

I say:
OFO (open File Option)

We use this and backups work fine......

Isn't Open File Option a piece of Backup Exec?

Josh,

I guess it is, I never had to use Backup Exec, I have been working with Netbackup since the 2.x days and it has had OFP for Winders since then, it's only logical to assume that they made it available for Backup Exec too.

Open File Option is a Backup Exec product not a NetBackup product. The only thing I know of in NetBackup to backup open files is VSP, and it is not working for this file.
