we are getting below error on windows OS, could anyone please help.

ERR - Error encountered while attempting to get additional files for System State:\

Errors seen in log:

 

unable to find first file: 'Shadow Copy Components:\System Service\Background Intelligent Transfer Service\' 
INF - file System State:\Automated System Recovery\BCD\BCD skipped 
 ERR - Error encountered while attempting to get additional files for System State:\  
 INF - Enabling volume snapshots for (System State:), please wait... 
 INF -   Adding Volume System State:\  
 INF - Unable to snapshot volume (Invalid source volume): System State:\ 

Suggestions:

  1. Use Windows backup utility to backup System State to local disk.
    Tell us what the result is.
  2. Split your backup into multiple data streams (select 'allow multiple data streams' in policy attributes.
    This way backup of other drive letters on this server will (should?) go through. Please only make this change before full backup is due to prevent Incr backup from running as Full.

Which Windows OS?

Please tell us exact Windows version as well as NBU version (including patch level).
System in a cluster?

There are a number of TechNotes as well as discussions in this forum about this topic, but the fixes are relevant to Windows and NBU versions.

It's Windows 2008 R2 SP1 and Symantec 7.1.0.3.

it's standalone server, most of system are VM.

Have you had a look at any of the TNs mentioned above?

Please post bpbkar log as per Nagalla's request above. Level 0 log should be fine.

I have seen a similar situation when a server has been built from the OEM DVD

If i remember correctly you just need to assign the recovery drive a drive letter under disk management so that VSS can get a handle on it - just be careful that you dont delete anything from it!
