Hi,

      Need anyone of your help....

We have two exchange servers (Exchange 2007) in CCR setup on windows 2008 x64 bit OS. These two server also configured as Media servers running with NBU6.5.4 version. Exchange active node's DB and it's logs replicates to the passive node. Configured GRT backups to the Local disk of the passive node, then stage the backups to 2 different libraries & Configured Storage devices for the passive node to do backup locally to the tape library staging. Now i need to configure the backup for exchange server and also need to make sure that backup is running ONLY from the passive node. How to get this done. Please advise.

Regards,

Saravana

Hi,

Found that the backup policy configured for Exchange backup was not configured properly for CCR Exchange backups.  The below modifications were done which fixed the issue.

1: Enabled both the Cluster Nodes to use VSS as snapshot provider.

2: Enabled the policy to use "Snapshot" option.

3: For better performance enabled multiple streams to run for the backup job.

After doing the above steps, the backup was running from the Passive node and not the active as it was before & the throughput was also good.

Hi,

Please post answers if you already been setup the similar kind of environment in Exchange/Netbackup. Basically i need to ensure that the backup is running only from the passive node as active node is dedicatively going to be used only for mails.

To perform an Exchange 2007 replication backup, you must indicate which VSS writer you want backed up.

To enable an Exchange 2007 replication backup

1 Open the NetBackup Administration Console or the Remote Administration Console.

2 In the left pane, expand Host Properties.

3 Click Clients.

4 In the right pane, right-click on the Exchange client you want to configure and choose Properties.

5 Expand Windows Client and click Exchange.

6 In the Exchange 2007 replication backup (LCR or CCR) box, select the writer you want to back up.

Backup the passive copy and if

not available backup the active

copy

This option backs up the passive copy of the VSS

writer. If the passive copy is not available and

healthy, NetBackup backs up the active copy.

This option is the default.

Backup the passive copy

This option backs up the passive copy of the VSS

writer. If the passive copy is not available and

healthy, the backup fails

Backup the active copy

This option backs up the active copy of the VSS

writer.

7 Click OK.

8 Create a snapshot backup policy for the storage groups you want to back up. See the instructions in the “Using NetBackup for Exchange Server with Snapshot Client” chapter of the NetBackup for Microsoft Exchange Administrator’s Guide.

and also i'm not able to find the following chapter in admin guide - "Using NetBackup for Exchange Server with Snapshot Client. Any idea...
