Frustrating Problems with Netbackup 6.0 and VMware Virtual Environment

Hi guys,

I currently have a SAS Dell TL4000 tape library and LTO 3 tape drive with Netbackup 6.0 MP3 attached via VMware ESX 3i, probably not a supported confiugration, but it should work none the less.

After battling with drivers, there are no errors in device manager now and I can see the drives and library within Netbackup. I can do a library inventory and can see the tapes.

However, when I try to run a quick erase on a tape I know is in the library I get error -  "error requesting media (tpreq)(98)"

When I try to run  a backup I get this -

Error nbjm(pid=3700) NBU status: 96, EMM status: No media is available unable to allocate new media for backup, storage unit has none available(96)

I should add, this isn't a new install, the server used to be a physical server with a local LTO3 drive. I have removed this. The old media is still listed, but can't see that making any difference. I can expire them and erase i guess.

Any ideas, I can see media is available.

G

As I understand you have a problem with LTO3 drive connected to ESX ?

hmm.. It's a streamer so you should to setup everything like for streamer

1. create new volume in correct volume pool (with the same type of density like lto3 drive has)

2. put tape in streamer

3. label media

now you can use it
