How do I know I'm backing up as fast as I can?

I know i've asked this before and i've seen it asked in different ways but I'll try one more time...

Quick specs: Client is a Windows 2003 Server, MILLIONS of small files (30k
average), deep folder structure, the client configured as a SAN Media server,
LTO2 tape drive library, and I'm pulling two streams with a combined rate
of about 25MB/sec. I have tried the Advanced Client along with the SAN Media
Server installation and the backups actually slowed down. We're about to
spend money on a consultant and I don't want to look bad by having him come
in with an obvious solution. How can I determine if I really am backing
up as fast as NetBackup will allow? Oh, NetBackup 5.1 MP5, total Windows
environment.

Thanks,
Randy

One thing that you can do is put a 100 meg file on your clients and then ftp from your master/media server to see what your network will actuall move. To big factors in how fast you can complete your backups is network and filesystem. You know what the drives can do, do you know what your network can handle? Have you tried 3 streams? Have you tried defining your own stream? In defining your own streams you can tune those by looking to see how long each stream takes. Keep in mind with to many streams restores suffer.
