Hi,

i want to know how i can validate that my backup that i took used the fiber network instead of the LAN.
Here is my log files

First if you look at the job details while it is running there is a field at the that that says Transport Type
If it is using the LAN it will say LAN.

Second I thought you could only so true SAN backup if you have FT setup.  If you have correct HBA card and set it up to use Fiber Transport you will then get that.

A San Media server is kind of a misnomer, as it does not by default backup via the SAN.  However a SAN Client is setup to specifly use FT to a FT Media server.

Will have to do some research to figure out who is correct.
But I know you can look at the running job to see the Transport Type.

Lan / fibre connection it depends on how you configured for backup .
whether you have configured server as a media server or not . If not then you are taking backup through LAN unless you don't have any SAN clients configuration .
If your client server is media server then you should have any tape drive or disk to take san backup , where the media server will have its own storage unit.

Regarding 'some files may have been busy or unaccessible ',  it is the default behaviour of windows if you don't configured for any open file backup's.

Rajesh

Hi Rajesh,

all my setup is done for using Fiber, The server serv-que-exch3 see the drives by fiber and The server ser-que-exch3 is configured as a media server and i created a storage unit for him

But i want to know if i can confirmed somewhere in a log file that i'm using the fiber instead of the LAN.

Thanks

As per my knowledge you may not be able to find it through any log files .

If it using its own storage unit to backup by it's own tape drive then it should use fire channel to communicate .

The storage unit used to perform the backup should be a dead give-away.
Is the storage unit "serv-que-exch3-msl8096-3drives" local to the server writing the data or tape drives on a different server?
The client is: serv-que-exch3, if this server is the one hosting the drives in the storage unit, then it will write across the SAN to the tape drives.

Hi Rick,

the storage unit "serv-que-exch3-msl8096-3drives" is Fiber Library. I see the drives locally on the server but the robot control host is on another server.
I imagine it means that it's using the Fiber

The NetBackup Administration Console Activity Monitor Jobs tab displays all of

the jobs that are in progress or have been completed.

The Transport column in the Jobs tab window shows the type of transport between

the SAN client and the NetBackup media server: FT for Fibre Transport or blank

for inactive or for a LAN.

The Detailed Status tab of the Job Details dialog shows more detailed information

about the job, including the following:

A Transport Type field in the header area shows the same information as the

Transport column in the Jobs tab.

Messages in the Status window show the status of jobs that use FT transport,

as follows:

Queuing for FT transport

Allocated FT transport

Opening FT connection

Closing FT connection

To view job details

Double-click on the job in the Jobs tab.

The Job Details dialog appears that contains detailed job information on a

Job Overview tab and a Detailed Status tab.
