We have 2 options.

  • Check policy name passed as 2nd argument of bpend_notify, and determine what to do for that policy.
  • Place the script with .policyname suffix, like bpend_notify.my_backup_policy

If what you are asking is that you want to run the script on the master server, and not on the client, then your options are;

Upon start;

  • parent_start_notify
  • session_start_notify

Upon end;

  • parent_end_notify
  • backup_exit_notify

For a complete list of notify scripts and where they run, please check out

Symantec NetBackup Administrator's Guide, Volume II, Version 7.1, page 148 and forward.

In addition to previous excellent post, bpend_notify script must be on the client, not on the master.

with the start of NBU7xx some policies do NOT call bpstart/bpend notify anymore. Those scripts need to be listed in the policy directly. FBU comes to mind.
