Guys,
I'm trying to install NetBackup on one of our RHEL 5 servers. I'm not sure if we don't have the right installers or what (another tech from another group downloaded the TAR files/licensing stuff).

./install: command not found
If I change to the NetBackup_7.5 directory and try ./install , I get an error. Is this even the right installer for RHEL 5?
TIA

Download NBU Client patch files for Unix/linux from: www.symantec.com/docs/TECH199244
Copy the 3 files to the Linux Client, join them as per instructions in the download page:
cat "NB_CLT_7.5.0.5_tar-split.1of3" "NB_CLT_7.5.0.5_tar-split.2of3" "NB_CLT_7.5.0.5_tar-split.3of3" > "NB_CLT_7.5.0.5.tar"
then extract them using 'tar xvf NB_CLT_7.5.0.5.tar'.
Next, install using NB_update.install script.
Not a good idea to run installation scripts from a Windows share.
Can we assume that the client is already on 7.5?
03-25-2013 12:55 PM
Yes, that is the correct installation method.
Question: what is RHEL bit version? Only 64-bit clients are supported.
Please post output of the following :
uname -a
cat /etc/redhat-release
03-25-2013 01:02 PM
It is 32bit.
Linux <servername> 2.6.18-348.el5PAE #1 SMP Wed Nov 28 21:44:58 EST 2012 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux
Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.9 (Tikanga)
So, we are out of luck?
03-25-2013 01:18 PM
Correct.
NBU 6.5 will install on 32-bit Linux but is no longer supported.
See NBU 7.x SCL: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH76648

I'm kinda in same boat with a handfull of 32 bit Linux clients. I run NetBackup 6.5.3 on the clients. If you already have a Linux client running 6.5.3 you can create a tarball of the /usr/openv directory and ftp it to new client. Modify bp.conf /etc/services and xinetd.d for new client and restart xinetd.

We do have another server that is running RHEL 6.4 and is 64bit.
Linux <servername> 2.6.32-279.2.1.el6.x86_64 #1 SMP Thu Jul 5 21:08:58 EDT 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 6.4 (Santiago)
What am I doing wrong here? How do I get this one patched to 7.5.0.5?
I SSH into the server, use the SMB Client to browse to the Windows server where the files are, but run into a snag...

Thanks!
We will give it a shot. Yes, the client is 7.5.

Seems it doesn't like spaces in filepath. Move the files to /tmp and run from there.

Cool, that worked. Just changed the name of the folder and presto. Thanks!
