Dear All...

I built a test environment for Netbackup 7.6 installed on windows server

I added media server , i used the Symantec backup exec 2010  media server from life environment just to make sure that tape drive will be dedcted on Netbackup.

The netbackup dvice configuration wizard scans the media server and then failed.

Can you advice why it is failed...is it because the tape drive already accessed by symantec backup exec or what??

how did you make sure weather netbackup can detect of not by backup Exec?

what the error that it has given when you run the device config wizard...?

Did it fail with an error, or fail as in not find the drive ... What does the output of scan show (in \veritas\volmg\bin dir) Have a look in tpcommand log (... volmgr\debug\tpcommand). Put VERBOSE into volmgr\vm.conf file and restart mm services if they are running (if not, don't worry).

Yes.

You cannot have 2 backup applications accessing/controlling the same devices.

Ok...let me clear the issue:

Netbackup Master  server : Serer A.

Net Backup Media Server : Server B (Where Symnatec backup Exec 2010 already run and ISCI tape Drive is attached , daily backup jobs are exist on this environment).

I am trying to lwt Netbackup detect the tape drive attached to server B for testing purposes.

I am using Device configuration wizard which shows only "Failed"- check attached screenshot Configyration Wizard

I used other commands i found in some article and i attched the results.

I am new to Netbackup and need help

You cannot use NetBackup Device Config Wizard to find/configure devices on a Backup Exec media server.

The backup software installed on the 2 backup servers are incompatible.

You can only use scan and device config wizard where NetBackup is installed.
All other backup software must be removed before NetBackup can be installed.

scan will only look for devices on the server where the command is executed.

Natbackup must be installed alone on the media server?

Correct.

You cannot install and use 2 different backup products on the same server.
The device management software is incompatible.
Even with services of one product stopped.

One of the main requirements for NBU server installations is that all other backup software must be removed before NBU is installed.
