Importing Backup Images

Hello Stumpr,

I have a question about importing backup images.

I have 12 backup tapes that have images that were backed up using Netbackup 4.6 and I believe MP4. These tapes have expired. They were used back in May and June of 2005. I am trying to import these images and keep getting an error code of 172 and it is stating that cannot read media header, may not be Netbackup media or is corrupted. It does try to mount, but is unsuccessul. I am using the Import Images Wizard. I am using Veritas Netbackup 6.0 MP4. Eleven out of twelve are coming up in the Scratch Pool. Once it goes to the Scratch Pool, this usually means that there is no data on the tape or it has been expired. The one that did come up has an expiration of April of next year.

1. Is there any way that I can retrieve the data/images from these tapes using Veritas Netbackup 6.0 MP4?

2. Could the tape be corrupted or the header has gone bad?

3. Or are we just out of luck?

Thanks for your help.

I've never been able to do it but symantec says it is possible

I suggest contacting symantec support.
