You may need to read your library documentation for more info. As far as NBU and OS is concerned, these are totally separate robots.

One per partition.

OK..lets talk at h/w level....since Robot would be just one for n number of partitions..How would it handle the commands issued to it if simultaneously ? Say every Partition's robot control host want to run Robtet..then how ?

The robot just deals with each request as they come in.

If for example you had x3 logical partitions, and you started a multiple backups that required say x2 tapes to be loaded per partiotion, the library would just queue the requests and deal with one after the other.

NBU has no control of this, once the requests yto load tapes are sent it just waits for the requests to be completed - ok there are timeouts, but unless there are issues then the library should be able to complete the requests in plenty of time.

In there robots I have worked with each partition needed to have it's own control path(s)

e.g.

partion Production was controlled through tape drive 1 & 4 connections

partion Test was controlled through tape drive 8 connection

where the partitions had tape drives 1-7 & 8 each

The standard questions: Have you checked: 1) What has changed. 2) The manual 3) If there are any tech notes or VOX posts regarding the issue

No, if there are 2 logical partitions, as far as any backup software is concerned, there are two separate libraries.  Therefore you could have two robot control hosts.

The fact there is only '1' physical library is not important, the library firmware makes it look like there are 2, and so that it what NBU sees.

Yes, multiple media servers can 'use' the robot because media server communicates to the robot control host to request robot operations.

In our environment,we have a Oracle SL 3000 PTL, we have two logical partitions. Each of the partion join different backup domain. So i think each partion only need one Robotic control host, but a lot of media server can use it.
