Start with the Compatibility Guides - verify that the combination of OS and Notes version is supported.
NetBackup 6.x Operating System (CL) for Client,Server,NOM,NDMP,BMR,SAN Client,MSEO: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH70729
NetBackup 6.x Application/Database Agent (CL): http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH43684
It is a lot easier to give advice if you provide all relevant info, such as OS on the Notes cluster.
If Windows, the NBU client software includes all agents and options, if Unix, the NBU client and agent has to be installed separately.
You need to install NBU client and agent on each node, then create a policy for the virtual hostname.

Have you had a look at the compatibility guides yet? Notes 8.5 supported as from 6.5.3 with reference to this Note:
2. Reference Article: TECH69745 "Using NetBackup to Protect Lotus Domino Servers that are configured to use the Domino Attachment and Object Services (DAOS)"
Please remember that master and media server must be at same or higher patch level as clients.
See my previous post for installation and configuration advice.
Since you have a Unix/Windows mix, please ensure proper forward and reverse lookup between server and client names, including virtual hostname. Adding hosts entries is probably the easiest.

Backing up a Lotus Domino Replicated or Clustered Environment
Backing up a Lotus Domino Replicated or Clustered
Environment
If using transaction logging, it is recommended that when configuring your Domino
cluster environment:
◆Archive-style logging be enabled on the Domino Server that will function as your
backup server.
◆Circular- or linear-style logging be enabled on all other Domino Servers in the
Domino cluster.
By running circular-style or linear-style logging on the non-backup Domino Servers,
all the advantages of transaction logging such as data reliability and integrity and
improved Domino Server performance can be attained without having to manage
(recycle) the archival-style transaction logs.
It is also recommended that such non-database Domino files as thenotes.ini, user and
server certificates ids, theCLUSTER.NCF file also be backed up as part of the standard
backup.

Hi ,
As we were having vote in our state (west Bengal, India), so I was busy in that, I haven't update either. Sorry for that....
As I confirm it is NBU 6.5, so we need to upgrade it to 6.5.3.
The OS is HPUX 11.5.
Currently MAster and Media server is the same server (i.e. HP Unix 11.5)
As I checked with the compatability list it is only mentioned for 6.5 for HP UX.
Currently, the server is taking backup of Oracle database(running on HP Unix) and some flat files of Linux server, along with flat file backup of a Windows server.
What need to be done while upgrading the NBU 6.5 to 6.5.3?
Is there any effect on the other backup along with the LTO tape librery drivers after upgrading to 6.5.3.
Do we need to upgrade all the client system to 6.5.3 or 6.5 will do the work as it is doing currently.
Please, help.
Thanks

Please get into a habit of upgrading regularly. Not only are bugs fixes included with patches and updates, it also introduces new features and support for newer OS and database versions.
Please upgrade to 6.5.6 rather than just 6.5.3.
Start with the master server, then media servers, followed by clients.
Download and installation instructions for each patch can be found in the download links: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH129076
The 6.5.6 Release Announcement contains a summary of new features: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH129631
Rules for NBU NetBackup multi-version co-existence in this TN: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH29677
There is no 'effect' on tape libraries after the upgrade.
For peace of mind, have a look at the Document Updates for 6.5.6: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH128244

HP-UX 11.11 PA-RISC
HP-UX 11.0 PA-RISC
HP-UX 11.23 IA64
HP-UX 11.23 PA-RISC
HP-UX 11.31 IA64
