Is there any way to use multiplex for ndmp storage unit

Hello,

We are runnning Netbackup 7.5.0.6 on windows server 2008 sp1 r2.

I mapped 1 physical drive to my netapp machine and I want to use multiplex for this drive, but unfortunately I cant do it on the storage unit.

There is any other way to use this feature?

yes you can select the Multiplex for ndmp storage unit  but you also needs to select select the Mulitplexing value on Policy schedule also...to take this effect..

I dont see Multiplex checkbox on the NDMP storage unit.

could you show us the screenshot of your storage unit?

Mpx not an option for direct attached devices. I think it is on 3way mpx , presumably as it goes via network /master.

You can only multiplex if you are using a media manager storage unit. Multiple streams for a NDMP storage unit will use 1 drive per stream.

Unfortunately, I think you may right.

I cant see any option to use mpx with ndmp storage units.

To add NDMP storage units
1 In the NetBackupAdministration Console, select NetBackupManagement
> Storage.
2 On the Actions menu, select New > New Storage Unit.
3 In the New Storage Unit dialog box, enter the following:
Storage unit name Enter a unique name for the storage unit.
Storage unit type Select NDMP.
Specify whether the storage unit is available only when a
policy or schedule specifically requests it. If this option is
not used, the storage unit is available to any NDMP policy or
schedule.
On demand only
StorageDevice Select the type of device for this storage unit.
Media server Select the media server associated with this storage unit.
Maximumconcurrent Select themaximumnumber of drives for concurrentwriting.
write drives
Reduce fragment size Enter the minimum fragment size for this storage unit.
to
Enablemultiplexing Select this item to enable NDMP multiplexing.
Select the maximum number of data streams to use with
NDMP multiplexing.
Note: You must select at least two data streams.

http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO53139  shows that multiplexing can be done with NDMP, but for remote NDMP which will use media manager storage units. I believe that when the admin guide was created, they were showing default parameters for a storage unit and then listing NDMP settings without realizing that it would be different. Not all the technical writers are as knowledgeable about this area of the products. We have the same flaw in the 7.6 guide. I will see if I can push a fix for the guide through.
