Issues backing up Snapshot volumes

PB747
Not applicable

Wondering if anyone can offer advice on the backup of snapshotted volumes. The snapshots are created using HP Tools on an EVA 8100 and they are presented to 3 x standalone backup servers.

The snapshots take place several times a day. The last snapshot that takes place on Friday is presented to the backup servers and a full backup to tape takes place. The problem we are finding is that as the backups run, the size of all snapshots increases and we have been running out of space on our EVA (which causes the presented snapshot volumes to dismount).

We suspect this is being caused by the clearing of the archive bit that the full backup performs.

Our backup server is NetBackup 5.1 Enterprise MP7

The snapshot volumes are presentations of Netware 6.5 NSS volumes (SP7) running in a clustered environment.

Does anyone know if it is possible to carry out a full backup WITHOUT clearing the archive bit?

Does Netbackup 6.5 offer any advanced features that are tailored towards backing up snapshot volumes?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Can you mount the snapshot volume as read-only, or perhaps present the volume from the EVA as read-only?  That would eliminate the ability of the machine to make any changes at all.
