I have a question about doing a full farm restore.
1. If I have a 5 server farm, 2 WFE, 1 Index, Cluster SQL backend (2 servers). Do I need to restore to an identical farm or can I restore to a farm that has 1 WFE and 1 SQL server?
Please note this is just theory and I've not tested this.
SQL Virtual server name would have to be the same as the DR SQL physical server
Sharepoint Indexing Server would need to rename the same also as the Backup of the sharepoint configuration will contain this servername entry in the backup.
The front end servers I am not sure about, the web front ends host the portal sites and should be able to redirect restore these.
So I would probably try configuring the restore like this.
DR Site
Server 1 (Same name as SQL virtual)
SQL Server
Server 2 (Same name as SP index server)
Index
New WFE
Perform a redirect of the portals to this New WFE.
