One of the newly setup media servers is showing Active for Disk only instead of Active for Disk & Tape. All the licenses have been input into the media servers.
How can we change the status to be Active for Disk & Tape?

No. It's up to you to determine which type of STU you want to set up, name etc etc.
Maybe worthwhile looking at the "Troubleshooting the Shared Storage Option" section (Chapter 17 p137-141) in the Veritas NetBackup 6.5 Shared Storage Guide.

I have not yet created any tape storage units. The reason being is that upon completion configuring the storage device, it didn't prompt to create a new storage unit associated with the new media server.
Any advise?
Thanks.

Yes, you can create a tape storage unit manually. But the new media server associated with the robot does not show up. The robot is currently managed by master and the drives shared between master & the new media server. When u select the robot TLD (0) for this case, only the master server hostname & Any Available Media appears in the selection list.

Does the media server show up when you run the command:
nbemmcmd -listhosts
or
nbemmcmd -listhosts -verbose

Yes, it does. I even use the nbemmcmd command to force the media status to Active Tape & Disk.
But after restarting the services on the media server, the status goes back to the original, Active to Disk.

How are your drives set up? Have you associated any yet with your new media server host & path?
We have 4 fibre attached LTOs with 2 shared using Shared Storage Option so may be different for us. But, the host is set to be the master server on all 4 with the 2 shared ones having entries for both the master & media server.

Ours is a library with 7 FC drives. Master has control over the robot and 4 drives. Media server A (the one having problem) is supposed to share the 4 drives. Media server B (working fine) has control over the other 3 drives.

to force it
nbemmcmd -updatehost -machinename client_name -machinestateop set_tape_active -machinetype media -masterserver fsconbck1
You must be sure that your drive have veritas driver installed and the device server service is up.
Test if your ip connection it's good and all ports that you used it's open

So you have applied the SSO license & confirmed that the drive paths for those 4 shared drives include both the master & media server A ? And that the paths to the latter are enabled?
Yes. When using the wizard to configure storage device, able to scan the 4 paths. Able to display robot & drives. During the last part of determining storage unit requirements, it just ended w/out creating a new storage unit associated with the media server. Netbackup will automatically generate a storage unit if one does not exist by default right?

nbemmcmd -updatehost -machinename client_name -machinestateop set_tape_active -machinetype media -masterserver fsconbck1

OS able to detect all 4 drives. As in my previous post, I have already execute the above command. The status Active for Tape & Disk is reverted back to Active for Disk once the Netbackup services are restarted on the media server.
