Dear Expert,

I have a customer who has configured App Cluster Media server on clustered master server. Now he realized that it is not supported and want to move it to a standalone node. Is it possible to move the media DB from clustered media server to one of its own node as standalone media server? If yes can you please provide me with some guidelines.

Regards,

Mr. Shaikh

On a master or master/media, clustering remains supported:

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH147444

"Master servers and combined master/media servers continue to use the NetBackup clustering agents and may only be configured in active/passive cluster configuration"

So, I think you do not need to configure an App Cluster Media server on the master... you can continue as in NetBackup 6 !

However, it is not advisable to mix and master media functions on a single server, a clustered master and a separate App Cluster Media is a better solution !

Question : what application is on the master server ?

Thanks for the response.

This is not a upgraded version of NBU 6.0. Its a fresh 7.0.1 installation on VCS cluster. I have noticed that the failover causing drives to go down or in SCSI reserve state and does not become free untill reboot of the library. So we are planning on migrating the media server portion from the cluster to a standalone. We also have an option to go for a new hardware for media server. Please let me know if this can be achieved.

There is no application on NBU master servers. Its only NBU cluster.

You can just change ownership of all the tapes from the old Media Server to the new one - this deals with all images ownership in one go:

bpmedia -movedb -newserver newhostname -oldserver oldhostname

If you plan to migrate your master from clustered to unclustered, this  can only be done by certified NBU consultants...

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH31385

But if you only plan to separate master and media, you only have to add a new media and to redirect new backup to this new media.

To restore old backup to the new media, you have only to redirect them by means of FORCE_RESTORE_MEDIA_SERVER :
