We are running Vstorage backups with Orphaned Snapshot handling set as ABORT, however backup is failing with status 156 and as a temporary solution We are selecting "REMOVE NBU" in Orphaned snapshot and re running the backup which is leading to success.
I am looking for a permanent solution to fix 156 which is currently challenging with my backup infra.

It maybe that your vCenter admins (or server owners) are running regular snapshots of the servers and these could interferr with NetBackup when it tries to do a backup.
Your initial abort option just tells NetBackup to fail the job if snapshots exist
Changing that to delete tells NetBackup to clean things up and then get on with the backup
Unless you are having actual failures on your VMWare Backup Hosts then you need to look at what is happening in vCenter itself and see if you can get things changed as far as yoru admins / server owners go.
Hope this helps
#edit# delete is what most people in my experience tend to use

No snapshots are created by vCenter admins, while we browse in datastore we see the snapshot created by Netbackup and we will have to forcefully delete and then trigger a backup.

OK - so in that case something is failing that needs to be dealt with first (still work keeping the remove nbu" option anyway though)
On your vmware backup host make sure it is fully up to date as there are plenty of patches released for vmware issues
Also setup bpfis, bpbrm, logging so that the details of the errors are captured - it may be the creation or deletion operation that is causing the issue so the bpfis logging is the place to start.
Hope this helps - get back to us with the logs so that we can see where things are failing (please add as attachments rather than paste the details in)
