NB 6.5 Transferring image files between Master Servers

I run a NB 5.1 environment where I transfer image files between master servers to facilitate restores.  Have done this for years, and make temporary modification to the client's bp.conf file to ensure success.  When both sites are at 6.5, can I still perform this restore shortcut?  Can I perform this shortcut images/*/ *.f file copy from a 5.1 Master server to 6.5 Master server?  How about the other way from a NB 6.5   .f file transfer to  NB 5.1?  Similar thread from WM in April 2006.

Removing the image files alone doesn't move all backup catalog information. There is also the volume manager database. How do you handle the movement those information ?.

Recovery Without Import works on NBU 6.x as well.
6.5 will be able to read 5.1 images, but not the other way round. There were too many changes from 6.x onwards.
