At page 3, we can read:

Could you tell what should be considered as device connections ?
Do NBU clients are included in the terme of device connections ?

thanks in advance

I guess, device connections means number of tape drives and robots, or these control/transport connection path(SCSI, FC).
NetBackup client are not counted as device connections.

I had the same opinion as yours about the meaning of "device connections".
I wanted to have a feedback because I experienced operational problems when I migrate one master while the media servers remains in version 5.x.

It's better to make a new post of your problem. Can you detail how did you migrate and what happens on new post?

I migrate a master from 5.1 MP6 to 6.5.3 but 4 media servers remains 5.1 MP6.
When I launch a lot of backups jobs the 4 media servers become offline. When the load get less big the media servers become again online.

I guess 5.x media servers communicates by different manner, and they used up TCP ports that they are allowed to use.
I recommend you to upgrate 5x servers to 6.5.
Or tune port range and usage(Allow non-reserved ports, Server (reserved)port window, Client (reserved)port window, or so on).  But this may be too hard.
