If I implement Flashbackup to speed backups of millions of files, can I expect the size of the catalog to decrease?  I would think so, however since Flashbackup provides the ability to restore individual files, I assume this info would be stored in the catalog and then possibly the size of the catalog will not be reduced?

You are right, there will be minimal to no impact on catalog.

You are right. Since you can restore single files, it means that all files are registered in the Netbackup catalog. If you wan't to avoid, the millions of files in the catalog you must make some sort of raw volume backup, but that also mean you need to restore everything to a alternate location, just to restore one  file.
