NBU with VCS.. Want to failover Logs Location shared between two nodes using SF 5.1

Dear Experts,

Its 7.0.1 with SF 5.1 SP2 clustered on two nodes. We are trying to move the log directory to a shared storage which shared between both nodes. Please let suggest the way we can failover the path and same time dismount and remount the volume on both nodes whenever NBU failovers.

Regards,

Okay - I see in your other post (https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/service-monitor-service-always-down-master-server ) that the OS is W2008.

The process to move logs is easy enough if you follow this TN: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH45907 BUT you will need to add the new volume into the cluster configuration.

You need a basic understanding of cluster resources and dependencies to do that. If you are not 100% sure, please get a consultant to help you.

On which OS? Legacy or Unified logs, or both?

The method depends on the OS - on Unix/Linux it will be as easy as creating symbolic links (with NBU cluster resource in OFFLINE state).

Do you have a separate volume/mount point in the same diskgroup that can be used for logs?

You don't want the logs to be on the same volume as the NBU databases, as a full filesystem (because of logs) will result in EMM to be shutdown.

Don't forget to do the logs move settings on each node of your cluster so that each node logs to the shared drive if you have a failover.

Probably best to do it this way:

1. off line the cluster

2. make the setting changes on both nodes as well as adding the log volume to the cluster dependancies for NetBackup

3. online the first node and make sure it logs in the correct place

4. failover to ensure the dependancy is correct and that it continues to log in the correct place

The logs will need to be one of the last things to go off line and first to come on line as they are pretty critical
