NDMP Host / NAS file-storage not recognized

Rickert
Not applicable

Hi,

We have recently bought a new Storage Appliance that runs on a storage os called Open-E.(com)
Compared to other vendors like netapp, EMC, its not as expensive and has loads of functions that are helpfull..

It runs from flash drives on usb/sata/ide flash ports and can be put in almost every general server.
Futhermore it is vmware certified and also does support the NDMP standard v3.
As you can expect, it supports iSCSI and NAS file storage.

My problem is, when i run the Device Configuration Wizzard in Netbackup 6.5.2a and try to add the NDMP device, it is not recognized.. When the auto detection is completed, it says No devices detected.

The connection is there, but it seems to have problems communicating.. (if i mistype the password it prompts me..)

I also tried to use these commands, taken from the netbackup manuals...
----------------------------------------------------------
C:\Program Files\Veritas\Volmgr\bin>tpconfig -add -nh nlstorage.hm.nl -user_id s
torage -password storage4real

C:\Program Files\Veritas\Volmgr\bin>tpautoconf -verify nlstorage.hm.nl
Connecting to host "nlstorage.hm.nl" as user "storage"...
Waiting for connect notification message...
Opening session--attempting with NDMP protocol version 3...
Opening session--successful with NDMP protocol version 3
  host supports TEXT authentication
  host supports MD5 authentication
Getting MD5 challenge from host...
Logging in using MD5 method...
Host info is:
  host name "dss94456430"
  os type "Linux"
  os version "2.6.17.13-smp"
  host id "a8c00c00"
Login was successful
Host supports LOCAL backup/restore
Host supports 3-way backup/restore

--------------------------------------------

This also seems to work fine, does anyone got some tips or pointers?

Please let me know.

Best regards,

Rick

Hello,

Have you tried to configure the NDMP device manually?

To do so:

1. Add the host name to Media and Device Management --> Credentials

2. Make sure the password is configured properly

I would check to make sure that it is officially supported for your version of Netbackup.
