Hello,
We are running NBU 7.5 and have an EMC SAN and an EMC Data-Domain.
I have 2 questions...
1) Our NDMP job runs without any issues. Although, once complete, it lists the transfer type as "LAN" on the completed job. We are expecting to see SAN there. Can this setting be modified anywhere to inform it to use the SAN? Is it SAN, and its just a bug that reads LAN? I am seeing LAN speeds, although I can not find anywhere to set this to SAN. It is writing to the Data-Domain VTL which is only connected fia FC.
2) What is the best practice for encrypting data going to a Data-Domain that performs Deduplication? If we encrypt or data as it travels to the Data-Domain, is the Data-Domain able to still properly Dedup this data if it can not properly read it? Does the Data-Domain read the bit level and does not care about the encryption?
Thanks.

Confirmed, NDMP is using LAN and not SAN. Is there a setting somewhere in Netbackup to change this transfer type to SAN?

The transfer type will only change if you have san clients. Even mirror backup has LAN as transfer types.

You can't encrypt data before they reach the data domain as the da-deduplication rate will drop to 0. I think the best option is to the encryption option (require a license).
