NDMP drives are for NDMP and you can use them has regular drives but in order to do this you need to use the Remote-NDMP option, which means it will be a media server in the middle controling all your NAS drives and is probable that you will need an SSO configuration to do this that is only supported under NBU 6.x.

Will i not need a fibre switch to connect both the media server and Library to though.

Currently you are running what is known as "Local NDMP" backups.

In short, the answer to your question is no.  Sorry.  With your configuration you can only backup:

a) The host to which the library is directly attached to.

b) But also, another NDMP host to the same library using the "NDMP 3-Way Backup" method (but this will also incur NetBackup licencing costs)

You cannot use NetBackup to backup a Windows host to a tape drive directly attached to the NDMP host.

BUT... with NetBackup v6.5 you could re-configure things such that the tape library is attached to a NetBackup media server, and then share the tape drive as a normal "Media Manager" storage unit, and use the "Remote NDMP Backup" method to still backup your NDMP host to the same library, but via the "ndmpagent" on the NetBackup media server - as well as your Windows hosts via NetBackup - BUT not at the same time to one tape drive.   You can do both at the same time via the NetBackup media servr if you have more than one tape drive in your library.  AND, this will definitely incur NetBackup licencing costs for:

- NetBackup Library Based Tape Drives

- SSO Tape Drives (if you plan to share the library amongst several media servers)

- NetBackup NDMP Agent License (not cheap!)

...and will require SAN infrastructure.  You'll only need a SAN switch if you plan to share (SSO) the library between multiple master/media and media servers.  You won't need a SAN switch if you directly attach the library to one master/media or media server.

...AND your backup of your NetApp will quite likely be a fair bit slower - as the backup data would now be going over the LAN to the ndmpagent running on the media server.  So, I wouldn't consider this if your NetApp is large.

BTW, configuring the "Remote NDMP Backup" method got a whole lot easier with v6.5.  It's easy now, but still not cheap.

...which also states for NetBackup v6.0:

NDMP Local Backup
An NDMP backup to a tape device attached to the NDMP host client.

NDMP 3-Way Backup
An NDMP backup to a tape drive attached to an NDMP host other than the NDMP host client.

NDMP Remote Backup
An NDMP backup to NetBackup Media Server. Current implementation uses an NDMP storage unit that directs the backup to a daemon on the Media Server that acts as an NDMP Server.

NDMP Backup to Media Manager Storage Unit
Special case of an NDMP Remote backup using a Media Manager-type storage unit. This capability is new with this feature release.

HTH.
