NDMP client backup / network connection timed out (41)

I backup a NDMP client into 3 streams, the largest stream being 700GB.   Yesterday, when the backup reached 420GB for this particular stream, I recieved a network glich.   The second attempt began immediately right after but did not pick backup where it left off.   Is there a way to configure netbackup to resume where backup left off when network issues happen?

Thanks

From the NB 'Help' pages:

"The Take checkpoints every check box specifies whether NetBackup takes checkpoints during a backup job.

Checkpoints during a backup are beneficial if a backup fails. Without Take checkpoints every enabled, a failed backup restarts from the beginning of the job. By taking checkpoints periodically during the backup, NetBackup can retry a failed backup from the beginning of the last checkpoint rather than restart the entire job. Note that checkpoints cannot occur while a file is backed up. Checkpoints are saved at file boundaries, and point to the next file in the list.

Policy types MS-Windows-NT (for Windows clients) and Standard (for UNIX clients) support this policy attribute. To see if this feature is supported for a specific agent or option, refer to the manual for that agent or option."

Unfortunately this option is not available for NDMP saves. Count yourself lucky you weren't 100Mb from the end of a 1.4Tb save - been there before & it's not fun! Smiley Mad

One way around this would be to create NFS mounts on a UNIX server & back these up using the 'Standard' policy type - but it will be MUCH slower.
