DOCUMENTATION: How can a Live Update server be designated and configured within a NetBackup 6.5 (Windows) environment using a LAN as the method of communication?
http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/317256.htm
Snippet:
"Usually the master server itself is designated as the Live Update server and its UNC path is specified during the initial installation, but this can be changed later."

How to configure LiveUpdate for UNIX clients using a Windows NFS share
http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/327896.htm
Snippet:
"Designate a "LiveUpdate" server (the Master Server is used in this example)."

Quick reference for NetBackup LiveUpdate Configuration.
http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/316704.htm
Snippet:
""Designate a "LiveUpdate" server (the Master Server is used in this example)."

Haven't checked but I would've thought that the Admin Guides would confirm this?

Thanks for all documentation.  I have a question:

1. I have did a "LiveUpdate" shared folder. I downloaded and copied the folders in this LiveUpdate shared folder:

D:\LIVEUPDATE\NBLU_6.5.6.WINx64_351600
D:\LIVEUPDATE\NBLU_6.5.6.WINx86_351601

Is that right? should look like this?

Before you can run a LiveUpdate policy successfully, you must download the release updates to your NetBackup LiveUpdate server.
NetBackup release updates include a Windows .gzip file and a UNIX .gzip file. The files are available for manual download only from the customer support site.
Unlike Symantec LiveUpdate, NetBackup packages are not downloaded automatically. Manual downloads respect customer sites that maintain strict change and update control policies.
Use the following steps to download NetBackup release updates to your NetBackup LiveUpdate server.

To download NetBackup release updates to your NetBackup LiveUpdate server
1 Log in to your NetBackup LiveUpdate server as the administrator.
2 Open your internet browser and enter the following address: http:\\entsupport.symantec.com
3 Select the release update to download.
4 Verify the directory on your NetBackup LiveUpdate server where you want the package downloaded.
5 Click Download.
6 Extract the contents of one or both release updates to your NetBackup LiveUpdate server.
7 Unzip the files.
..."

More info can be found in the installation guide (Appendix A):

LIVEUPDATE:
The NetBackup 6.5.4 LiveUpdate containers include all the files distributed as part of NetBackup 6.5.4. This allows customers to use LiveUpdate to populate their local LiveUpdate server with all files required to upgrade to 6.5.4. When a LiveUpdate policy is launched to upgrade to 6.5.4, the local host that is targeted for the update determines what set of files is required automatically.  LiveUpdate Policies can be scheduled for specific clients to maximize NetBackup deployment.

Windows:

UNIX:
NOTE:  UNIX Live Update requires all four downloads to install correctly:

 http://support.veritas.com/docs/351597

NBLU_6.5.6.UNIX_3of4.zip (package 3 of 4) provides updates to NetBackup 6.5 via Live Update. These packages contain all server, client, and option packages for all UNIX platforms

6.5.6 Release Update did not update the Unix Live Update Agent.  The 6.5.4 packages can be used with 6.5.6 systems:

NB_LUA_6.5.4.tar provides updates to the NetBackup 6.5 Live Update Agent on UNIX clients

& what you intend LU to update.

Obviously if your environment does not include any Windows IA-64 platforms then you won't need that package.

"...
Release updates are distributed to clients when a LiveUpdate policy is run. The LiveUpdate policy checks the versions or release updates on each client that is listed in the policy. Then, the policy installs the NetBackup software that is available on the NetBackup LiveUpdate server.

Yes, You have to download the patches you are going to apply like WINx64,WINx86,etc and extract them to the shared folder saying "do not overwrite" for any file copy if prompted. and then the steps mentioned in the doc http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/317256.htm
