EMM status: Host scan ability update failed

Hello, Netbackup 6.5 Solaris. The following error message has been found: NBU status: 800, EMM status: Host scan ability update failed resource request failed (800) and the drives were in DOWN status My understanding is that the error was logged because the nbpem could not get the required resource from the EMM But what exactly "EMM status: Host scan ability update failed " means ? And under which conditions is it outputted ? Best Regards

Not come across this particular error before & there doesn't appear to be much online, but from the Shared Storage Guide:

"...
Scan Host
Each shared drive has a host that is identified as the scan host. A scan host is the host from which the automatic volume recognition process (avrd) scans unassigned drives. (The robotic daemons scan assigned drives.) A scan host must have data-path access to the drive.
...
...
How the scan host is determined
EMM determines scan hosts; a scan host may be different for each shared drive. The first host in the environment to come online with a non-zero scan ability factor is the initial scan host for its drives.
...
...
The scan host can change
A scan host is assigned for a shared drive until some interruption occurs. For example, one of the following occurs:
■ The socket connection, the host, the drive, the drive path, or the network goes down.
■ The drive is logically placed in the Down mode.
EMM then chooses a new scan host. The scan host temporarily changes to hosts that request tape mounts while the mount is in progress. Scan host changes occur so only one host at a time has access to the drive path.
...."

So, possibly the ability of this determination of available scan hosts has failed due to communication or tape drive issues?

Can you tell me is those are SSO drives ??

I see that error is something related to SSO drives

If its SSO drives, verify your SSO configs

I think you should also have to look at this tech note http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/278533.htm

Hello,
thank you for your reply .
Yes I use SSO , sorry if I forgor this essential info.

I think that the message is related to the fact that the drives were down
However I wonder whether I had the drives down
in another couple times but this message was not returned

what do you mean by :

"The drive is logically placed in the Down mode."?

Thanks

The word "placed" makes me think that the drive is downed for whatever reason by the operator/administrator (for service, replacement etc) and "logically" by use of the NB application to do so (as opposed to "physically" switching it off or disconnecting it).
