Hi all

NetBackup 7.1 Win Clustered Master server Win2k8r2 std sp1

NODE1  = Passive node

NODE2 = Active Node

VN (Virtual Name)

Recently due to hardware issue on node 1 we had to reinstall OS and all the patch. When tried to add node 1 to existing cluster group it failed to list

"Detected operational MSCS cluster. Could not list preexisting NetBackup cluster groups."

I tried rebooting node 1 and restarting cluster services too but didn't worked.. Any idea what could be issue.

Have had to change the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\TCPIP6\Parameters\DisabledComponents from 20 hex to ffffffff and reboot to get the netbackup cluster install to work on a Windows 2008 R2 cluster. Got about the same message

to add the Netbackup cluster node:

Problem

DOCUMENTATION: How to add a clustered media server to an existing Veritas NetBackup (tm) 6.0 domain

Solution

Manual: Veritas NetBackup (tm) 6.0 High Availability Guide, Appendix C

Modification Type: Supplement

Modification:
The following steps can be taken to add a new NetBackup 6.0 clustered media server to an existing NetBackup 6.0 domain.

1. Make sure the master server recognizes all the server names associated with the clustered media server. It is necessary that the master server can do both a successful forward and reverse name lookup for the virtual name and all the node names.

2. Once the name lookups are working properly, it is necessary to add SERVER entries for the virtual name and all the node names to the master's bp.conf file.

3. It is also necessary to add the node names and virtual name as a machinetype ofmedia to the Enterprise Media Manager (EMM) database. The following command will need to be run for each node in the cluster. For this command to work it will be necessary to know the host name of the node, the master server name, and the operating system type (Solaris, HP-UX, rs6000, Linux, Windows, etc).
# cd /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/admincmd
# nbemmcmd -addhost -machinename <current_active_node_name> -machinetype media -masterserver <master_server_name> -operatingsystem <os> -netbackupversion 6

4. After adding in the individual node names, add the virtual name as a machinetype of cluster to the EMM database. For this command to work only the virtual name of the cluster has to be supplied.
# cd /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/admincmd
# nbemmcmd -addhost -machinename <virtual_name> -machinetype cluster

5. The virtual name and individual node names will now be added to the EMM database. At this point, run the device configuration wizard to configure any devices and storage units to use for backups

Thanx for sharing above infor.  But this steps have followed several times.. But to no result i'd to backup my catalog and then remove NBU completely then re-add both node... even symantec support including backline failed to reckon this bottleneck.....
