DLO is supported, but badly (see http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/346643.htm for example).
We run it and it does the job.
There's been rumors for a long time that Symantec was working on a new solution but I haven't heard anything in many months.
DLO is cheap - it's the disk space that's expensive. If you need something today, and your user community is not so large that it would be too painful to migrate away later, I wouldn't have a problem with implementing it. If you do have a large community, I'd suggest that you get an NDA in place and talk to them about their future plans (which isn't a bad plan before ANY major new initiative).
