Hi All,

I have a windows server 2003 as master server, version of NBU is 7.5.0.4.I need to upgrade the Netbackup version to 7.6.0.2 on a new server, windows server 2012. I have a problem about this, Netbackup 7.6.0.2 does not support windows 2003(64bit) and Netbackup 7.5.0.4 does not support Windows 2012. The plan is to have a staging server, windows 2008. Can someone tell me all the necessary procedures/ steps?

Windows 2003 Sp1 and Windows 2003 r2 are both supported in 7.6 as netbackup servers if 64-bit.

Sp1 does have some GRT limitations.

Windows 2003 32bit is only supported in 7.6 as a client.

Please take a look as well on page 25 for server, 24 for client.

Symantec has a technote for this case, no brainer. http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH77447

Thanks for the info mnolan. That is the reason why we have the staging server, server 2008. Its because we cannot upgrade it directly to windows 2012.

You are 100% correct.

You will have to prepare a staging server and use the steps in TECH77447 for both migrations.

1. Install NBU 7.5 and patch to 7.5.0.4 on W2008 server with same hostname (IP can be different).

2. Recover catalog.

3. Check that all is running fine, then upgrade to 7.6.0.1, followed by 7.6.0.2.
Perform catalog backup.

4. Prepare W2012 server with same hostname (IP can be different).

5. Install NBU 7.6.0.1, followed by 7.6.0.2.

6. Recover catalog.
