Netbackup version upgrade 10.x in redhat linux - install account - root?

When upgrading the actual version of netbackup from 9.1.0.1 to 10.x has anyone used root as the user when upgrading or installing.  I see the guide states that a non root account should be used in linux environment.   Wondering if we can still continue to use the ROOT account when upgrading on netbackup 10.x?

Thanks

Hi BC,

Looks like as of NetBackup 10.2 you need to use a non-root user.

Hope this helps!

You can still upgrade using the root account.but if you are going to 10.2 and later, just add a non-root user for database and when you are prompted, provide that username. this username must be a non-admin user.

Thanks so much for the replies and links

Hi @bc1410

One thing to note in 10.2 (and above) there are now three possible users associated with NetBackup processes.

  1. The Postgres database user (DATABASE_USER)
  2. The service account user for most processes (SERVICE_USER)
  3. root for processes that require this still.

The service account user can be root. The database user cannot be root nor should it be the service account user.
