OpenVMS Policy

Does anybody know what policy I need to select in order for me to backup an OpenVMS system.  Is there any best practices guide or configurations guide to assist me in configuring a policy for OpenVMS systems?

Thanks!

DOCUMENTATION: Does Veritas NetBackup (tm) have a client for OpenVMS?

Details:
Manuals:
Veritas NetBackup (tm) 4.5 User's Guide for OpenVMS
Veritas NetBackup (tm) 5.0 User's Guide for OpenVMS
Veritas NetBackup (tm) 6.0 User's Guide for OpenVMS

Modification Type: Supplement

Modification:
Veritas NetBackup supports backups and restores to OpenVMS clients.  A listing of supported platforms will appear on page 1-1 of the appropriate user's guide for OpenVMS.  The client software is not available on the NetBackup Installation CDs nor it is available on the Support Web site.  The software and manuals must be ordered from Sales and will arrive on a separate Veritas NetBackup for OpenVMS Installation CDROM.

If you have an OpenVMS system that has never had the NetBackup for OpenVMS client software installed on it, then you will need to obtain the specially VMS formatted CDROM which is required for the initial client installation.  The NetBackup for OpenVMS Installation CDROM can be obtained through your Veritas Sales Representative.

Once the initial NetBackup for OpenVMS client software has been installed, the client can be upgraded by downloading maintenance pack (MP) updates from the Veritas EMEA Support Web site.  This Web site also contains each version of the user's guide for OpenVMS.

 ftp://ftp.emea.support.veritas.com/pub/support/Products/NetBackup_OpenVMS/

This is an anonymous ftp site and can be accessed with your Web browser. It is suggested to download the OpenVMS User's Guide at this site (nbu_vms.pdf) as well as the latest maintenance pack version.

The following notes apply to the various maintenance pack (MP) releases for the OpenVMS client software:

  • These maintenance packs can only be applied to an existing CDROM installation.  See Chapter 2 of the User's Guide for OpenVMS for MP installation instructions
  • The initial CDROM installation only needs to be done once.
  • The latest MP version of the client software is cumulative, meaning it contains all the fixes from the previous versions.  This means an OpenVMS client running NetBackup 4.5 can be upgraded directly to NetBackup 6.0 Maintenance Pack 1 (MP1) by downloading and installing the 6.0 MP1 update.
  • The NetBackup for OpenVMS installation CDROM is backward compatible with a NetBackup master or media server running an earlier NetBackup release.  This means an OpenVMS client running NetBackup 6.0 MP1 will still be compatible with a NetBackup 4.5 master or media server.
  • It is suggested to download and install the latest MP release for OpenVMS clients.
