Hi All,

We have configured a new media server(HP - UX 11.i v3) ..I just want to know if any one has any idea on how to disable Persistent path in HP-UX in form of (/dev/rtape instead of /dev/rmt).. after issuing tpautoconf -t command device path is shown as /dev/rtape path for ex.. /dev/rtape/tape18_BESTnb..
as a result backup is failing with error 52) . i manually updated the path throguh tpconfig command but again after service restart it takes path /dev/rtape
and backup starts failing..

Hi Amit,

What NBU-update version are you using? Persistent DSF is supported only in 6.5.4. If NBU is already at 6.5.4, no need to disable 6.5.4.

If already at 6.5.4, then try a few steps and let me know how it goes :

- When you manually change the device path, do you run tpautoconf  or directly just restart NBU service?

- Once you change the path using tpconfig, verify the path running tpconfig -d and then just try restarting ltid (Media manager service restart from GUI for that server)

- Manually mount the tape on one of the drive, try a small backup using HP-UX tar to send data on each of the device path.
