Our NetBackup version is 7.1.0.4

> The backup status is recorded in bpjobd logs under \netbackup\logs.
> Tape Media errors are recorded under \install path\netbackup\db\media\errors file.
> Volume Database, Media Database & Image databases are merged to EMM database since NBU 6.0. This is a Sybase database & you cannot open it to get the contents. The path is \Veritas\NetbackupDB\data\nbdb.db
> The default retention for the logs, is 28 days. You can change this setting via NetBackup Administration console > Host Properties > Master servers. Master server properties > Clean-up.

Please go through the netbackup catalog chapter 6 and let us know if you still have doubts.

The NetBackup catalog resides on the disk of the NetBackup master server. The catalog consists of the following parts:

Image database: The image database contains information about what has been backed up. It is by far the largest part of the catalog. For more information, see "Image database" on page 273.

NetBackup data that is stored in relational databases: The data includes media and volume data describing media usage and volume information, which is used during the backups. For more information, see "NetBackup relational database" on page 276.

NetBackup configuration files: The configuration files include flat files concerning policy and schedule information.

You have never mentioned your OS or NBU version?

Oh, your other post says Windows with NBU 7.1 (please mention in all posts?)

In addition to above excellent post, herewith link to 7.1 manuals:

See p. 662: Parts of the NetBackup catalog

Figure 18-1 on p. 663 shows the default files and directories in a NetBackup catalog.

1) The location where backup status (success/failure) is reported on master server

2) Also the location of media catalog.

1) Depends what errors you are talking about.  If you mean drive/ media errors, you sould see these in bptm and the volmgr logs.

drive/ media errors are also help on each media server in /usr/openv/netbackup/db/media/errors

This information is also held in the emm database.

2)  The media DB is part of the EMM database.
