Hello,

I'm not sure to fully understand your question.

The hot backup must be the catalog backup, it's mandatory to have one running.

For what you call a cold backup, if you are running Netbackup on a virtual server, you can consider doing a clone of the machine from time to time to avoid deploying a new VM + installing everything before being able to perform the catalog recovery.

As per your subjected query "Protect master server against failure",

1- Make another netbackup Master installation and configure Netbackup AIR. You can place that netbackup server at primary site or at a DR site.

2- Make regular catalog backup. Makesure protect the DR file and ensure it will be received via email

3- If you are in a virtualization environment, keep the regular snapshot
