Question about Replicator Director compatibility with Data ONTAP

Hello,

I have two questions about the Replicator Director compatibility with Data ONTAP software. We use NetBackup 7.5.0.1.

On the Replicator Director Requirements document (DOC5240) available at this link:

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=DOC5240&actp=search&viewlocale=en_US&searchid=1339797239332

I read as a requirement (pay. 2):

"Data ONTAP 7.3.6"

On the other hand on the "NetApp plugin for NetBackup installation and administration guide" available at this link:

http://support.netapp.com/documentation/docweb/index.html?productID=61329

I read, pag 18:

"For SnapRestore support on Windows, you must install Data ONTAP 7.3.6P1."

I have 2 questions:

- What is the "SnapRestore support on Windows" feature?

- Which version of Data ONTAP should I install on filers?

Have a nice day.

Answer to your query

  1. SnapRestore: NetApp SnapRestore software uses our Data ONTAP® Snapshot feature to let you recover anything from a single file to a multi-terabyte volume in mere seconds

Our NetApp SnapRestore® software uses stored Snapshot™ backups to recover your entire file systems or data volumes in seconds, regardless of capacity or number of files.

NetApp SnapRestore software uses our Data ONTAP® Snapshot feature to let you recover anything from a single file to a multi-terabyte volume in mere seconds.

The Snapshot process is automatic and almost instantaneous, and takes up very little of your storage space. The easy, one-command restoration that SnapRestore provides lets you choose and recover data from any Snapshot copy on your system.

Traditional data recovery requires that all the data be copied from the backup to the source and takes much more time and disk capacity. With SnapRestore, you can:

  • Restore databases fast
  • Test changes with easy restores to the baseline copy
  • Recover quickly from virus attacks, or after user or application error

SnapRestore helps you save on staffing resources because it is simple to use—no special training is needed.

2.NetAPP had started Support of Replication Director from Data ONTAP 7.3.6 onwards. Hence your filer must  be least on this version to leverage benefit of replication director

Hope   this helps
