from the following T/N:

"...
There will be no active NetBackup daemons on a client unless a backup or restore operation is in progress.
..."

For completeness, the following T/N's detail daemons & services that should be running as a minimum on master and media servers:

I've an idea about detail daemons & services that should be running as a minimum on master and media servers. But on client, if the backup fails with error 57, it means bpcd is not up and running. How to resolve this ?

On the client issue

# bpclntcmd: -reverse_name_lookup prohibited

This disable reverse lookup on the client. The normal name name lookup must however work.

bpcd/vnetd  is called from TCP wrapper (xined or inetd).

You need to check /etc/services and/or inted.conf xinted.conf (there are some variation on how to configure the wrapper). Best is to compare with a similar client that work.
