Recover expired images from an MSDP

Hi,

Is it possible to recover images that have expired from an MSDP in a situation where the storage hasn't yet overwritten?

If so, what would be the process?

The master / media server is win2k8r2 x64 with NBU 7.01.

Thanks,

Chris

Unlike tape where the data is still on tape and only NBU image info is deleted, DISK backups are actually deleted when the images expire.

I cannot see any way how this can be recovered/imported....

The size of the MSDP still appears to hold data, would this not be kept as seed information and only get deleted when the watermarks were reached?  Would an old catalog help?

Hi,

Dont know if it works the same for MSDP but for PDDO see below.

Your NetBackup policies specify a retention period for a backup image. At the end
of this time, the backup image is said to be expired. PureDisk’s data removal
policies remove expired data from the content routers. PureDisk data removal
policies do not remove any data that is backed up with the PDDO plug-in unless
NetBackup expired the data first.
PureDisk includes a system policy for PDDO data removal. This policy is enabled
by default, and it is preconfigured to run once a week.
You do not have to edit the
system policy for PDDO data removal, nor do you have to reconfigure this policy.
If you edit the system policy for PDDO data removal, be careful about scheduling
it to run more frequently. For example, you do not want to run this policy once
on the hour. When a PDDO data removal policy runs, PureDisk cannot run PDDO
backup jobs. The backup jobs wait until the data removal policy finishes.
The PureDisk data removal policy operates on the following types of data
selections:
■ PDDO data selections that are backed up to this storage pool from NetBackup
■ PDDO data selections that are replicated to this storage pool from another
storage pool
A PDDO data removal policy does not affect data removal for any other data
selection types that you may have specified for this storage pool.

Which means your data might still be there. This comes from the PDDO guide. It also says that you can import from a storage pool into nebackup, be it from a backup you made to a storage pool, or data that was replicated to another storage pool (possibly connected to a DR master).

They don't say how to do it though. Might want to contact support and ask how. That is of course if the removal policy hasn't run yet, and if MSDP works like PDDO
