Recovering data from a different domain

I have two independent NBU 6.0 domains at 2 locations with WAN connectivity.

The backups for each domain are first staged across the WAN to a disk storage
unit physically located at the other site.

My question is: in terms of DR, if one of the sites goes down, is it possible
to import the images/catalog from the DSU into the master server of the other
site which is on a different domain? If yes, what would be the procedure
for doing so?

Thanks!

Do you have identical tape labels?

Have you considered 2 master servers with a separate EMM server?

Colin,
Yes, you can import the catalog/images information from 1 master server to another.
I recommend looking through your NBU 6 manual for information/directions on the 'bprecover' command.

Also, read Chapter 7 of the NBU 6 Troubleshooting guide: http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/279295.htm

Also, as h m points out, you could run into some problems if your tapes are labeled identically; I hope they aren't!

Hello, Colin.
We can import images on disk strage unit with NetBackup 6.0(or later).
I have never tried, but I think this will meet your needs.

First you have to perform phase 1 with "bpimport -create_db_info".

ex)
bpimport -create_db_info -id

Then complete phase 2.

Usase of phase 2:
bpimport:

For testing, you should copy image files to another dir, and perform import with copied files.
Once you expires imported backups, images on DSU will be erased.

Cheers!

I would restore the catalog backup of primary site at the DR site using bprecover command.

only thing is that the hostname at both Primary and DR should be same.
