Replacing Tape Library in Netbackup 7 for Windows

Hi,

We need toreplace the existing single drive LTO 4 tape library with the lates 2 Drive LTO 5 Tape library with barcode. The previous one doesnot support barcode and the catridges were identified using slot numbers. Now when I am replacing this library, what will be the best possible option to retain the previous backup  . If I use the same catridge will netbackup identify them?

Put the non-barcoded media in specific slots, then use vmphyinv to inventory just those slots.

To run physical inventory for slots 3-8, run this from cmd:

vmphyinv -rn <#> -rh <robot-host> -slot_range 3 8 -d <density>

Please DO NOT leave these non-barcoded tapes in the robot - just insert them when you need to restore from them.  Normal robot inventory from the GUI will add them with new media-id's and probably try to use them for backups.

Once all images have expired, it will be fine to put labels on them and reuse for backups.

Leve the tapes in the old robot and use new barcode labeled LTO5 tapes for the new robot.

Using LTO4 tapes in a LTO5 tape drives is supported but capacity and transfer speed will remain at LTO4 level. This may led to unprediciatble tape usage if LTO4 and LTO5 tapes are mixed.
