How to restore the data from server to UNC path (CIFS share)? I read that it is possible, but what steps should I take to get this done.
Env: Master: NBU 7.0.1 and Win 2008 R2
Media: NBU 7.0.1 and Win 2003
Client: NBU 7.0.1 and Win 2003
Thanks!

You can do a UNC path restore however on the Media server that will be performing the restore the Netbackup client Server must use a user/pass that has admin access to the UNC path on the server that does not have an NBU client installed.
To log on the NetBackup Client Service as Administrator
1 In Windows Services on the Media Server, double-click the
NetBackup Client Service.
2 Check the Log On tab: if the service is not logged on under an account that
has Administrator privileges, stop the service.
3 Change the logon to the Administrator account, or to an account that has
Administrator privileges.
The account must have Administrator privileges in the domain.
4 Restart the service.
5 Retry the restore.

Why to go with UNC share (is UNC share from client which is not under compatibility list of NBU?
You can simply use BAR to perform alternate restore
Just specify source and destination client and specify local path . Data would be restored simple

Can you please tell what should I chose as a destination server when setting up BAR GUI.
For restore when we chose servers to browse what should I chose as destination.

If you are using a UNC path as your target for restore it does not matter what server is selected as the destination. However as Douglas said the NetBackup Client service on that server must have Admin access to the actual location you want to restore the files. You may want to change the account that runs the service on a Media server you have and once services have been restarted set that as your destination. You shuoldnt have any problems restoring then. You may get some errors saying "unable to set short name" or something of the sort but they are normal and do not affect the restore.
