Root Access Requirements for NBU Administrators

Hi All,

I'm currently trying to acquire some Symantec NetBackup Technotes or whitepapers on the requirement to have "Root" access for NB administrators to manage installation/updates and daily operational tasks for the NBU environment including Master and Media servers.

Can anyone please point me in the right direction as I require this information for a client.

Thanks in advance.

There no sudo templeates I know of.

root is not required to configure devices from the Netbackup application if NBAC is active. Root is neede if you need to create device drivers or scan the I/O subsystem.

Pls take a look at this TN: http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO46909

It should provide you with the tools to see if NBAC is enabled.

The NetBackup Installation Guide for Unix states root is required for installations - just search for the word root in the following:

http://www.symantec.com/docs/DOC5154

Hope this helps

Consider NBAC - This will provide role based access control when Netbackup is installed. NBAC enables Netbackup admin to use accounts other than root. The use of root account is the most often question I hear  auditors asking (if you have that type of people around).

Hi Nicolai,

Yes, auditors are asking the questions as the clients want to manage the OS level and only provide minimal access to users.

Whilst I am aware that Root is required for installs, upgrades and patching. Is there a sudo template of commands?

Also, is root access required to configure and manage devices?

One more thing, how do I check if NBAC is enabled as I currently don't have access to the environment as it's still in the first phase of transition.

Cheers,
