Root Cause analysis......

Hi,

Most of the time I come across the term "Performance root cause analysis for backup failures" . But I am not having any idea over what & all we need to perform under this. Could anyone please give me a brief idea of what exactly it is & how to perform root cause analysis for backup failures ? Also what are the best ways to do "Fault and performance Monitoring of the Backup Server and OS" ? It will be a great help.

Warm regards,
Dan

Start with the Netbackup error code, research all possible causes and resolutions.

Plug some keywords into the Symantec Knowledge Base:

Google search often turns up good tips too!   Goes along with the axiom "you are unique qualified to find somebody else has the same problem" :)

Check server hardware and tape library systems for diagnostic messages.

I find that most "backup problems", once the system is installed & working properly, can be traced to client configuration changes.  Despite the claim from many a server and network admin - "oh nothing changed on our end" - the fix is usually there.  Rarely Netbackup software updates are required.
