Running bpnotify scripts before SQL backups

NBUAdmin

I want to run a script before a SQL DB backups run using the bpnotify_start script that does some SQL maintenance such as re-indexing. Is this possible?

I found this tech article http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/272332.htm but it does not show that it applies to version 6.0mp3 which is what I am running.

Also, it appears the only way for the backup to start when the script finishes is to set the Backup Start Notify Timeout.

In the past SQL backups have been initiated from the client by our DBAs using a custom script that calls the backup after doing some maintenance. We want to start pulling backups from the server instead so if a backup fails they can be initiated from the server by one of our operators.

I do not think the notify scripts work with SQL.

I think you should try to trigger the alerts from the SQL server side, when the backup ends, will be easy for your DBA to perform this, he only need to develo a little script who checks the logs and last backups time.

Hope this helps.
