SQLAnywhere logging to messages file

dmpcore

Hi all!

I've upgrade NetBackup from v6.5.4 to v7.5.0.4 recently (standalone) and it begun to fill /var/log/messages file in my master server with a lot of messages from SQLAnywhere:

This messages are registered when NBU makes a hot catalog backup (everyday at 6am). Nor errors or warnings shown in NBU about jobs.

I found this KB (http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH57877), but setting "-s none" in my /usr/openv/var/global/server.conf doesn't work in my environment.

Here is my server.conf:
-n NB_debora
   -x tcpip(LocalOnly=YES;ServerPort=13785)  -gp 4096 -gd DBA -gk DBA -gl DBA -ti 0 -c 100M -ch 1024M -cl 100M -zl -os 1M -o /usr/openv/db/log/server.log -s none
 -ud -m

Before the upgrade, without SQLAnywhere loggin in messages,  my server.conf was like:

-n NB_debora
   -x tcpip(LocalOnly=YES;ServerPort=13785)  -gp 4096 -ct+ -gd DBA -gk DBA -gl DBA -ti 0 -c 25M -ch 500M -cl 25M -zl -os 1M  -ua  -o /usr/openv/db//log/server.log
 -ud

I know that in v7.5 hot catalog backup changes some checkpoints from file to DB, and the entries in messages are not a problem, but they're annoying... anyone who know how to stop debugging in /etc/messages?

Thanks a lot in advance!

Diego

Sounds like this one if it is restricting it to one processor:

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH178219

Perhaps once you have changed the setting it will stop complaining so much

Let us know if this helps

Don't think so Mark... for several reasons:

 * I'm not having performance issues at all.

 * This issue affects only Windows environments on NetBackup 7.1.0.3. My environment is RHEL 5.6 on NetBackup 7.5.0.4.

And the fix is for 7.1.0.3, I can't apply in 7.5.x.

Thanks!

Please review : http://www.symantec.com/docs/DOC5198  page 30 regarding suggested setting for the server.conf

We get that all message text on 7.1 Linux Master with every Catalog backup.

Dyneshia,

As you can see, my server.conf configuration is as the document recomends... minimun cache 1GB, and -m for limiting transaction log. But this settings are for improve performance in migration process...

I saw also this HOWTO (http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=HOWTO34665) but it doesn't show any "-s none" setting (as the first article shows)...

Yeah, I think these messages are logged due to changes in hot catalog backup in 7.x versions.
